A third have told an AI something they haven't told the people close to them
Core finding
Within the past 30 days, about a third of Americans (32%) say they have confided something to an AI that they haven't told the people close to them, a September 2025 Verasight survey finds.
One-in-five (20%) say they have chatted with an AI “just to keep it company” over that stretch, and 16% have given their AI a name or nickname. Smaller shares say they have described an AI as a friend or partner when talking with others (11%), felt jealous or protective about their AI (10%), or purchased or subscribed to a companion AI product (3%). Meanwhile, 41% say they have done none of these things in that span.
