Americans come down on both sides of whether some TV stations and newspapers should be closed for reporting that harms people's reputations, according to a Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted Feb. 28-March 6, 2025. Nearly half (48%) are against the idea, including 23% who say they hate it.

Three-in-ten (30%) are in favor, including 13% who say they love it. The other 23% take neither side.
