When asked how state laws classifying embryos created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) as 'children' or 'persons' would affect people's ability to build families using IVF, more Americans say they are not sure (26%) than give any other answer, according to a November 2025 Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults. Another 22% think the laws would have no impact.

The rest expect an effect: 27% think the laws would make IVF at least somewhat harder, including 14% who say much harder, while 25% think they would make it at least somewhat easier, including 10% who say much easier.
