Americans draw sharp distinctions over who should be granted U.S. citizenship: 78% say American-born children of American-born parents should have it, and 64% say the same of documented migrants, according to a September 2025 Verasight survey of 3,000 U.S. adults.

A slimmer majority (53%) says the same of American-born children of migrants, while fewer would extend citizenship to Dreamers and DACA recipients (39%), undocumented migrants without a criminal history (29%), or DACA recipients’ parents (27%).
