When Americans weigh leaving the country, politics is the loudest push. Dissatisfaction with current political leadership is cited by 57%, more than any other reason, according to a Verasight survey conducted April 9-15, 2025.

Economic pulls rank close behind, with 52% citing a lower cost of living and 42% pointing to better and/or lower-cost healthcare, followed by concerns about safety and security (37%). Smaller numbers mention seeking better job opportunities (18%), other reasons (17%), or being with family and friends abroad (16%).
