In a Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted April 10 to 15, 2024, when asked to think of the political party they most identify with, 48% of Americans said officials from the opposing political party put American identity under serious threat. This includes 28% who said a great deal and 19% who said a lot.

Another 36% said American identity is somewhat under threat from the opposing party, while 17% said it is not much or not at all under threat, with 12% who said not much and 5% who said not at all.
