When Americans picture the country's immigrants, one group comes to mind more than all the others put together. A narrow majority (52%) name Mexicans, according to a September 2025 Verasight survey of 3,000 U.S. adults.

Central Americans and South Americans place a distant second (26%), and about one-in-eight (13%) point to some other group. Smaller shares name Indians (5%), Koreans (2%), or Italians (2%).
