More Americans feel they belong in the suburbs than anywhere else
Core finding
No single place claims a majority of Americans' sense of belonging, but the suburbs come closest. Roughly a third (35%) say the suburbs are where they feel they belong, regardless of where they actually live, according to a Verasight survey conducted Oct. 1-11, 2024.
The rest divide almost evenly among the other options: about a fifth each feel they belong in cities (22%), in rural areas (22%), or in small towns (21%).
