For a majority of Americans, loneliness is at least an occasional feeling. Fifty-five percent say they feel a lack of companionship at least some of the time, including 17% who feel that way very often, according to a May 2026 Verasight survey.

The single most frequent response, though, points the other way: 28% say they hardly ever feel that lack, and another 17% say never.
