Most Americans have U.S.-born parents and grandparents

In a Verasight survey of 3,000 U.S. adults conducted Jan. 18 to 24, 2024, 65% of Americans said they, their parents, and their grandparents were all born in the U.S.
Smaller shares described more recent immigrant ties: 17% said they and their parents were born in the U.S. but at least one grandparent was an immigrant, 10% said at least one parent was an immigrant, and 8% said they were immigrants to the U.S.
