Nearly half of Americans support banning transgender athletes from gender-matched sports
Core finding
Close to half of Americans (48%) would support a law banning transgender athletes from competing in sports that align with their gender identity, according to a June 2026 Verasight survey. Most of that support is firm, with 37% strongly in favor.
About three-in-ten (31%) oppose the law, including 20% who strongly oppose it, while 22% take neither side.
