A slim majority of U.S. adults (52%) name racial identity as the one they find hardest to square with their other identities, according to a May 2026 Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults.
Sexual orientation is the toughest to integrate for 29%, and gender identity for the remaining 19%.
