## Reading

For most Americans, the year 2106 might as well be unreachable. More than eight-in-ten (86%) say it feels far away, including a slim majority (52%) who say very far, according to a May 2026 Verasight survey of 491 U.S. adults.

That far-leaning group also takes in 21% who say far and 14% somewhat far. Only a sliver feels any nearness — 6% say neither, 5% somewhat close, and 3% call the year close or very close.
