A majority of Americans (55%) place themselves on the free side of a seven-point scale measuring how freely they feel they can express their true emotions, including 21% at the far end who feel completely free to do so. The largest single group, though, sits at the neutral middle (28%).

Toward the other end, a smaller share (17%) feel less free, according to a Verasight survey conducted Feb. 28-March 6, 2025.
