Most Americans think adults keep stuffed animals because they're comforting

In a Verasight survey conducted Feb. 28-March 6, 2025, the leading reason Americans give for why some adults keep stuffed animals is comfort: 54% say it is because the toys make them feel good.
Nearly half (49%) instead point to collecting, while a third cite emotional support (35%) and roughly three-in-ten mention the softness itself (30%). Smaller shares name a sense of belonging (24%), and 12% say they don't know.
