Americans most expect tariffs to hit the national economy
Core finding
Americans expect tariffs to reach beyond their own wallets. More than six-in-ten (63%) say their country's economic situation will feel the effects, and 53% expect the same for their personal economic situation, according to a Verasight survey conducted April 9-15, 2025.
Political fallout registers less: 17% expect tariffs to affect their vote at the next midterms on the "outgoing administration," and 16% their vote for the "democratic opposition." Another 16% think tariffs won't affect them at all.
