More than a third of U.S. adults (36%) count their job among the most important aspects of their life, including 5% who call it the single most important, according to a March 2026 Verasight survey.

An additional 27% say their job is of some importance to their life, while small shares call it not that important (4%) or one of the least important aspects (2%). Three-in-ten Americans (30%) are not currently working, and 1% don't know.
