Just over four in ten say state government overspends
Core finding
About four-in-ten Americans (42%) say their state government spends too much, ahead of any other view of state spending, according to a January 2025 Verasight survey.
About a quarter (23%) say the state spends the right amount, 19% say it spends too little, and 15% have no opinion either way.
