About four-in-ten Americans (42%) disagree that the U.S. stands on equal footing with its trade partners when it comes to the trade deficit, including 18% who strongly disagree, according to a May 2025 Verasight survey.

Roughly three-in-ten (31%) come down on neither side, while fewer land on the agreement side (16%, with 5% strongly agreeing) and about one-in-ten (11%) say they don't know.
