A minority of Americans endorse the view that capital punishment is barbaric and never justified: roughly three-in-ten (30%) agree, according to a January 2024 Verasight survey. Just under half (47%) disagree, including 16% who strongly disagree.
The remaining 22% neither agree nor disagree.
