A majority of Americans grant the United States at least conditional license to influence other countries in pursuit of its interests: 62% say doing so is always or sometimes justified, according to a January 2024 Verasight survey.

Most of that support is conditional: 45% say U.S. influence is sometimes justified and 17% say always. On the other side, 19% call it rarely justified and 7% never, while 12% are not sure.
