Three-quarters say their party identity is important to them

Party membership carries real weight for the Americans who hold one: about three-quarters of Democrats and Republicans (73%) say being a member of their party is important to them, including 28% who call it extremely important, according to a May 2023 Verasight survey.
Very important draws the largest single share at 45%, while 22% say their party is not very important to them and just 5% say it is not important at all.
