Ending racist policies is the most popular reparations proposal
Core finding
In a Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted Jan. 16-27, 2025, stopping current racist policies draws broader backing than any other form of Black reparations, with 49% of Americans in support.
Police and justice reform (43%), economic and community development (43%) and housing, education, or healthcare (41%) follow close behind, while 28% favor a formal apology and 18% a cash transfer. Roughly three-in-ten Americans (31%) say reparations should not happen at all.
