Four-in-ten Americans say doctor political advocacy depends on the policy issue

In a Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted March 6 to 16, 2026, 39% of Americans said whether doctors and public health professionals should remain politically neutral or speak out on public policy issues related to health depends on the issue.
About a third said doctors should remain politically neutral (35%), with 21% who said completely neutral and 13% who said mostly neutral. About a quarter said it is appropriate for doctors to speak out (27%), with 11% who said mostly appropriate and 16% who said definitely appropriate.
