A majority of Americans know someone who's had an abortion
Core finding
Roughly four-in-ten Americans (42%) say they do not know anyone who has ever had an abortion, according to a January 2024 Verasight survey.
Beyond that, 22% of Americans name a close friend who has had one, 20% someone else, and 14% an immediate family member, while 10% say they have had an abortion themselves and 5% prefer not to say.
