Almost everyone says equipment skills matter
Core finding
Most Americans value knowing how to operate, build, or repair machinery: 88% call these skills at least somewhat important, including 31% who say they are extremely important, according to a Verasight survey conducted July 30-Aug. 4, 2025.
Very important and somewhat important draw nearly equal shares, at 29% and 28%. The remaining 12% say these skills matter little or not at all, with 9% saying not too important and 3% not at all.
