Most Americans peg the average household income at $45,000 to $65,000
Core finding
Americans put the typical household's income squarely in the middle of the range: 37% estimate the average person earns $45,000 to $64,999, ahead of any other bracket, according to a September 2025 Verasight survey.
About a quarter (24%) name the next bracket up, $65,000 to $99,999, and one-in-five (20%) the band just below; from there the estimates thin out, with 8% guessing under $24,999, 7% choosing $100,000 to $149,999, and 3% combined at the two highest brackets.
