Most Americans identify as middle class

In a Verasight survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted Aug. 20 to 25, 2025, 52% of Americans described their current social class as middle class.
About a quarter described themselves as working class (27%), while smaller shares chose lower class (11%), upper class (7%), or said they did not know (3%).
